One of our leading researchers, Glenn Strkalj, has written a paper, Sydney Air Traffic Services and Radar 1981, to provide base data and information on Sydney ATC and radar as it was in 1981.
Understanding Sydney Air Traffic Services (ATS) such as Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Flight Information Service (FIS) as it was during the VH-MDX accident in August 1981 is crucial in forming likely and defensible assumptions as to the location of the missing aircraft VH-MDX.
The paper is fascinating and comprehensive reading complete with explanatory diagrams and photos.
For your reading and understanding as we work to resolve this mystery.

A central area where facts, theories, questions and experiences related to the search for the Cessna 210M known simply as VH-MDX which disappeared on 9th August 1981 while traversing the Barrington Tops NSW, can be exchanged. On board were the pilot Michael Hutchins and passengers Ken Price, Noel Wildash, Rhett Bosler and Philip Pembroke. No trace of that aircraft has ever been found. Please note the purpose of this blog as described above. Any other material or comments may be removed.

VH-MDX Most Likely Extent of Flight
Glenn Strkalj and Glenn Horrocks have released VH-MDX Most likely extent of Flight .
As it states in the publication .... " The purpose of this paper was to define a boundary representing the Most Likely Extent of Flight of missing aircraft VH-MDX to limit large-scale search operations whilst also offering a tool to screen specific flight path theories. The boundary defines the area within which VH-MDX is most likely to lie within based on the best possible information, data and understanding currently available."

VH-MDX Radar presentation
Glenn Strkalj has assembled the results of his research covering ATC Radar involvement in
the VH-MDX incident. This paper gives a very comprehensive look at what radars could see VH-MDX together with factors affecting.
It is for background information and to stimulate thoughts as to the outstanding matters at hand.

New website and included forum on it's way
Hi all,
I am working on development of a website with included forum re VH-MDX. Anyone with any advice re good/bad bulletin board software, website builders or website hosts please yell !.

VH-MDX. Maximum possible Extent of Flight
Glenn Strkalj and Glenn Horrocks have released version 2 of VH-MDX Maximum Possible Extent of Flight . This publication was described elsewhere in this blog.
Structured research such as this is essential in solving this mystery. The paper makes for fascinating reading and while I can personally vouch for the thoroughness with which it would have been researched and also the enthusiasm and dedication of the researchers themselves, all comments, questions and observations are most welcome.

Annual Search effort about to get underway
Hi all,
The largest, regular, annual search effort for VH-MDX is again about to get underway. It enjoys participation from the SES, RFS, BWRS, WICEN and NSW Police Rescue. I'll be up there as a WICEN operative.
The main area of operation will again be the Williams River valley.
For anyone wishing to be a part of this, membership of any of the squads above or indeed any of the member squads of the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association is the ticket. Aside from this event, all of the VRA squads have a multitude of planned (exercise) and 'unplanned' (emergency) activities that you can participate in and so benefit your community.
I'll keep all posted on the outcome.

Glenn Strkalj and Glenn Horrocks are passionate researchers of the mystery that is VH-MDX. Together they have researched and written a paper titled VH-MDX Maximum Possible Extent of Flight . As stated in the paper itself, it's purpose is to define a highly conservative, but robustly found geographical boundaries within which VH-MDX is located. That is, to define an area where VH-MDX is definitely located; and outside that area it is impossible (or at least extremely unlikely) for VH-MDX to be located: a maximum possible extent of flight analysis. So with that stated, the intent of the Maximum Extent Analysis is to provide guidance to filtering
reports that are flooding in regarding potential wreckage, sounds of impact etc
and to limit the extent of intelligence activities and so concentrate those activities to that area where VH-MDX is highly likely to be. The intent is not to yield specific search
areas (that will come later).
Structured research such as this is essential in solving this mystery. The paper makes for fascinating reading and while I can personally vouch for the thoroughness with which it would have been researched and also the enthusiasm and dedication of the researchers themselves, all comments, questions and observations are most welcome.
