Hi all,
I welcome you all to visit, read, interact and contribute at www.vhmdx.com.au

www.vhmdx.com.au will be the new platform for interaction re VH-MDX  and as a full featured website offers extended functionality.

Read the research, read the story, stay updated on what's happening, contribute your views and questions via the forum.

This blogspot will remain for 12 months while being placed in non-active status. I will transfer the posts to date into the new website.

     Let's find them.

  1. I'm cruizer21 from the other 2 blog sites & have researched/worked out where MDX might be!
I read the Radar data info from 1981with interest as it's almost in the area I've plotted, (3-4.5nm north of Chichester Dam & just west of Wangat Rd is where I think MDX might be!)
The short comings of the radar means MDX could be in 10-15km square area? My area is just south of the second radar position, I don't fully agree with second position as the line of 100 degrees is drawn straight from the first radar fix?
As in the Pilots/Atc communications MDX from the first fix headed 220 degrees for approx 1 minute, then headed between 150-120 degrees & on decent got blown in an easterly direction with 45-70kt@240 wind, making the distance the same but more south of second position!
I think MDX was heading back to the Craven Beacon/Waypoint (on the east side) that it past over on the way in?

  2. Hi cruizer21, Have a read of all the research papers available at www.vhmdx.com.au See how your theory fits against that research. By all means then comment on the forum available on that website. It is a true forum where you can interact with other contributors.

  3. I have read all the info, heard the recording numerious times, worked on it for over a year, but alas no one takes any notice, I'll look in my own area! By the way I'm a private pilot with army experience!

  4. Hi Cruizer.Im taking notice. It is possible MDX was heading back towards the beacon at Cravan but also possible that it was unintentional.Lets not forget the pilot reported seeing the lights of Foster when he flew from the cloud bank,at this point he knows where he is and the beacon was to the east at this point,so to elect to fly to the beacon would have put a 50knot wind up his rear, not a good thing to elect to do and this is why I think it was unintentional.A big wind up his rear, ice accretetion on the wings and a loss of altitude of about 1000feet per minute, some over steer to the NE and then back into the cloud bank, the pilot becomes dissorientated and the plane enters a graveyard spiral exceeding the aircrafts performance perameters and breaking up before impact. If this theory is close to the actual events ,then it is unlikely MDX got to far after the last radio contact.Cheers

    2. I don't believe the spiraling theory, MDX was up at approximately 10,000 ft nth east of Lake St Clair when atc told him to turn to 150 for Maitland, but from the turn with a tail wind MDX started decending @ 1600 ft/min for several minutes, until last pilot comm was at 5000ft & atc advised lowest safe was 6000ft, that time & distance takes MDX north of Chichester Res!
